Hand-Dyed Flannel Rag Rug - Custom Woven This is what you call recycling since these sheets are from when I use to be a massage therapist ! This soft flannel features beautiful organic patterns in deep forest greens, ocean blues, and crisp whites - perfect for adding warmth and character to any space. Each rug will be hand-cut and woven on my loom, creating a durable, cozy piece that captures the flowing, artistic nature of the original dye work.
Handwoven Cotton Pouches with Chevron Pattern These charming small bags showcase the artistry of traditional handweaving with a vibrant, contemporary twist. Each pouch features a striking chevron pattern woven in cotton, creating dynamic zigzag lines that dance across the surface in brilliant blues, sunny oranges, and fresh greens.
These towels are called Sunset Garden they measure 17.5" X 26" approximately. They are woven with hand-dyed 5/2 cotton and woven with 8/2 cotton. If interested in them let me know
I'm currently working on a beautiful piece of handwoven yardage featuring a vibrant color palette of purples, greens, and soft yellows. The woven portion shows how the colors blend and play together and the purple and green threads creating depth and movement in the fabric. This piece represents hours of careful planning, from selecting the color combination to threading the loom and maintaining consistent tension throughout the weaving process. More updates to come as this piece develops!
Handweaver from Iowa finally finished weaving the handwoven towels . The towels are woven from pearl cotton and 8/2 cotton (which make them high absorbency) . Let me know if you have any questions /
This is a starting of a bookmark. Instead of weaving on your Zoom Loom , I thought of using a looper pot holder frame. It works great !!! The same - over and under and you can leave the tails long to tie off . I hope everyone is having a fun, safe summer.
This striking tote bag showcases the timeless beauty of overshot weaving, one of America's most treasured traditional textile techniques. The piece features two classic overshot patterns: Church Windows and Chariot Wheels, woven in a rich burgundy and cream colorway that creates stunning visual contrast and depth. The bag features sturdy construction with reinforced black handles, making it both a functional everyday accessory and a beautiful example of traditional American weaving heritage.
I finally finished it ! It didn’t take very long to get it woven ; it took longer to felt and sew 🧵 the tote . Isn’t it cute ? I hope you guys had a nice Father’s Day . The next holiday will be the Fourth of July 🇺🇸. If you are interested in learning how to weave , I am looking 👀 for people that are interested in learning how to weave . Check out my Linktree @ Linktree.com/handweaverfromia9 It will be a Hello loom -/ handheld
For those curious about this ancient craft, weaving offers an accessible entry point into textile arts. A 8-harness loom like this one can create everything from simple dish towels to complex patterns, making it perfect for beginners ready to discover the magic of turning individual threads into cloth. The process teaches patience, precision, and the deep satisfaction that comes from creating something both beautiful and genuinely useful. Check out my linktree/handweaverfromia9 and sign up for a mini- course .
My love affair with overshot . This pillow is an example of overshot which is a very traditional weave. Overshot is one of America's most distinctive weaving traditions, born from the practical needs of early colonial settlers who adapted European techniques to work with available materials. This supplementary weft technique creates those beloved geometric patterns we associate with traditional American coverlets and textiles.
In the process of dressing the loom with a new towel warp . The towels are going to be woven from 8/2 cotton . I will let you know when I completed them .

Greetings, fellow fiber enthusiasts! I'm writing to share my passion for weaving and the rich textile traditions I continue here in the heart of Iowa. My work as a weaver is deeply rooted in preserving and celebrating the artisan craft that has been passed down through generations. Each piece I create is a testament to the intricate skills of textile creation, connecting me to a long lineage of craftspeople who have transformed raw fibers into beautiful, functional art. The rhythmic motion of my loom tells a story of patience, skill, and creativity. Every thread I carefully select and weave represents a connection to our agricultural heritage and the timeless art of handcrafting. From local wools to carefully chosen cottons, my work celebrates the natural fibers that surround us in Iowa's landscape. Weaving is more than just a craft for me—it's a way of preserving culture, expressing creativity, and keeping alive a tradition that speaks to the heart of artisan skill. Each textile I create carries with it the spirit of Iowa's rich cultural landscape, woven stitch by stitch with intention and care. I look forward to sharing more about my weaving journey and the stories embedded in every piece I create. Karen Homann Handweaver from Iowa P. S. I didn't accomplish warping up my new Thistle warp like I mentioned from last newsletter , hopefully next week.

Handweaver from Iowa is weaving the chenille scarf after I had it on the warping board. After sleying the heddles and winding the warp onto the loom, I finally began the weaving process—bringing this chenille scarf to life, one thread at a time. This chenille scarf is soft, luxurious, and perfect for staying cozy in style. Stop by my store to see more of my handwoven creations! Soon to be available in shop.
Welcome to Handweaver from Iowa. There are several steps that I have to do to start the handweaving project. The picture above is a warping board with thread. A warping board is an essential tool for measuring and preparing the warp threads for a handwoven project. It ensures the threads are the correct length and organized in the correct order. This method ensures your warp is measured accurately and organized for smooth weaving on my loom!
